RemaxAsia Zhuhai China

We are off to the south of China again to the industry's latest dedicated trade show in the next few days. As always we are looking for the latest information, latest products and innovations that helps to keep you at the forefront of the industry.

We will also be discussing many topics with our existing suppliers. So if you have any new products you wish us to look for or any comments you wish to make about any of our existing products now would be a great time to express it so that we can discuss it with our manufacturers face to face.

Important information regarding filling of Brother LC-133/135/137 Cartridges

In June this year we purchased a brother MFC J4510DW printer which we required for testing. The cartridges that suit this printer are the first inkjet cartridges from Brother that use a chip on them. We were very interested to see how the chip works with these printers, investigate filling methods and test print the recommended inks from Sensient.

We had also just received a sample resetter for these cartridges and wished to test this as well. To our great surprise for the life of us we could not work out what the chip is actually doing. I will tell you why because once we filled the cartridges and then installed the cartridge was detected as full of ink again and off it went. I must admit I was surprised as every other type of chip technology we had previously seen prevented the reuse of the cartridge.

So I thought let's now test the resetter, so I printed all of the ink out of the cartridge until the out of ink message appeared. I then reset the chip on the cartridge with the resetter and installed it in the printer. The printer still detected the cartridge as empty!

So why did a company bother to make a resetter if one was not required? I asked the manufacturer this question and they were as surprised as I was. They did mention that other regions did require this resetter and that the cartridge could not be filled without being reset.

Still to this day our printer is working fine and the cartridges have been used numerous times without a need for resetting. It's obvious that this printer still uses the same optical type sensor as previous Brother models. The chip does not seem to be used as an anti-filling device.

Since that time we have had many other customers filling these types of cartridges without any problems.

But it doesn't all seem rosy as one of our customers did experience a problem with one of his customers. Is this just the one anomaly? I really can't tell you. All we can say is that 95% of customers that have refilled these cartridges have done it successfully and the printer recognises full ink levels and functions normally for its complete print life.

The cartridges we refilled using our brother refill tools ver.2 and the correct Sensient ink to use is :

B5010 Black
B5020 Cyan
B5021 Magenta
B5022 Yellow

If you have been successful or have any more information regarding the above we would love to hear from you.

New Brother Inkjet Cartridges

Brother has just released two new models of printer cartridges. The LC-131 and LC-139 cartridges which should be a very similar design to the above mentioned (LC-133/135/137) cartridges. This is a calculated guess as they fit in many of the same printer models.

More information will be available on these cartridges soon. Stay tuned!

It all happened with a blurrrrrr

Looking out the window I noticed a white blur out of the corner of my eye. It was the cartridge stig with his bright cyan helment gleaming in the sunlight. With a grinning smile he flicked the latest industry tip our way. The next moment he was gone like a 'chocolate after a four week diet' muttering something about a new clutch! When will we see him again I really don't know. But once again we must thank you Cartridge Stig whoever you are!

Tip :
TN2250 or TN2030 cartridge not recognised in HL-2130/2132 printer after the starter cartridge has expired

Steps to correct this.
1) Turn off the printer.
2) Open front door where toner and drum go in.
3) Turn printer on holding down GO button.
4) When all lights are on let go of the GO button and then press two times and release.
5) When all lights are lit except "ready" press the GO button 7 times(TN2250) or 5 times(TN2030) and release.
6)  Wait for lights to go out and only the ERROR button should be lit.
7) Close the front door and the problem should be solved.

Thank you Mr Eduardo

Many a month ago we had the privelige to be invited and to exhibit our products to a select group of customers. During that time it was a great pleasure to to have a chat with a man named Eduardo and his lovely wife. After the dinner Eduardo set the dance floor on fire with his suave dance moves. By the way I posted it on youtube, I hope you don't mind! The rumour is it's a big hit with a very select audience! So here you go Eduardo I told you I would get you in the technical bulletin.

By the way what did you mean the best things about my technical bulletins are that they end well?

I hope this information has been helpful to you.

Technical Bulletin 20th September 2013

Ausjet LC-137XL BK/135XL CMY Cartridges Arriving Soon

We are just putting the finishing touches on the design of the packaging for this new series. These are the first Brother inkjet cartridges that include a chip on the cartridge. The cartridges are designed for the Brother DCP-J4110DW, MFC-J4410DW, MFC-J4510DW and MFC-J4710DW MFP's.

These printers are unique in that they have a small footprint for a A3 capable MFP. This arrangement means that the A4 paper sits opposite to how you would expect.

Thoughts about Multi-pack sets for the Ausjet Cartridge Range

Recently we have had a few enquiries about retail multi-packs for our Ausjet Cartridge Series. We are certainly in the process of looking into this, but we would also like to hear from our customers on what is the best combination of cartridges. For example do we create a multipack with one black and one of each of the colours or two blacks and one each of the colours. Also what cartridge numbers are customers most likely to order in a mult-pack rather than in singles.

We would love to hear some feedback from you regarding this matter and together maybe we can create a unique solution that can benefit all of us.

Update to Software for the Ausjet Flatbed Printer Now Available

If you are one of our customers using the new Ausjet Flatbed Printer we have just released a new software update that adds a number of new requested features. Please contact us for the link to download the new version.

We are also in the process of arranging cases for the Note II and S4 Phones. These new products we hope to bring to you shortly.

If you would like further information about the Ausjet Flatbed Printer click here to view a quick video. It's an exciting new product that allows you to print on smartphone cases, puzzles, badges, canvas board etc

Changes to the Design of Stick on chips for PG510/CL511/PG40 and CL41 Cartridges

I always believed that these chips were a true breakthrough for the industry. Never before had we being able to reset/restore the ink levels of printhead based inkjet cartridges. By installing a chip on these cartridges not only were we able to increase the ease of use for the customer but we were also able to increase the list of printers that the cartridges were able to be used in.

Like 'sands in the hourglass' time always moves on and the good news is that the design of these chips is being improved. They will be a little more awkward to install as they require some soldering but the benefit is you won't have any concerns about the chip lifting from the cartridge. We are also looking at a solution that will allow the chip to be reset/restored time and time again so you won't need to replace the chip each time.

Price reduction on Replacement Chips

We understand that the margins shrink a lot for remanufacturing inkjet cartridges when you need to install a new chip. That's why we made the decision to cut the prices on our replacement chips to as low a cost as we can.

As we are all aware probably the biggest annoyance for our customers is when they need to do a lengthy override procedure to even get their cartridges to work. That's why we offer replacement chips to eliminate this problem where possible and with the new reduced prices we hope the decision to install or not to install a chip is now a no brainer.

Improvements to the design of the Ausjet HP932/933 and HP950/951 Cartridges

In life we all constantly aim to improve and I know you're probably thinking some need more improving than others!! Wait! Hang on, Why do I get the feeling that you think I'm talking about myself. I am actually talking about our HP932/933 and HP950/951 cartridges that have some minor gremlins that we wish to eradicate. The reality is these cartridges are quite complex to manufacture and master due to their unique design.

But we pride ourselves on offering the best quality aftermarket cartridges for our customers so we are always looking to improve our products. We have discussed the gremlins with our manufacturer in great detail. They are now working on an improved version of these cartridges to meet our exacting standards. Stay tuned for further information!

Chip resetter for PGI-650\CLI-651 Cartridges

I would love to say 'yes' we have these resetters available now as we know that everybody WANTS one. We expect to hear some good news sooner rather than later regarding their release. One thing we can tell you is once we know they are available and we are pleased with the test results on Australian models you will be the first to know.

I hope this information has been helpful to you.

The Ausjet Professional Colour Series PGI-650XL/CLI-651XL cartridge series are now in stock.

Unlike most other aftermarket PGI-650XL black cartridges ours contain a high grade black pigment ink for sharp, dark and clear printing. The other advantage of the pigment black ink is that it has a high resistance to smudging on the page and is waterfast and UV resistant (like the OEM),

The CLI-651XL cartridges contain a bright, vibrant dye ink which is an excellent colour match to the OEM. The quality of the german based colourant inside these cartridges ensures a good quality print with the colours your customers expect.

All the above cartridges contain the newly released chip which ensures that these cartridges will be compatible with existing printer models and that correct ink levels will be displayed.

HP Officejet Pro-X Released in Australia

In previous technical bulletins we mentioned the exciting new inkjet pagewide printers that HP was bringing to market. This technology advance allows these printers to have world leading desktop printer speeds. This is due to the fact that the printhead is the whole width of the paper which means the paper is the only part that moves.

With many new advances in technology we are not always sure as to know whether the product will actually make it to market. The good news is that the Officejet Pro-X series printers are available now in Australia. Prices starting from RRP $599.00 for the printer and $799.00 for the multifuction units. Cost per copy has been touted at much lower than laser.

More information can be found at the HP website :

Differences between Firmware Versions and Printer Drivers

I'm sure everybody is aware that firmware changes over the last few years have caused many problems for aftermarket chip manufacturers. It's the bugbear in our industry, the one where we all look like we have egg on our face.

The dreaded return of a cartridge due to an incompatible chip and firmware version is not the best feeling. I often think I'm an extra from Star Trek as quite often I'm thinking to myself 'that's not logical'. I can tell you I'm not Vulcan but all these firmware updates and changes to cartridge designs is making me feel a little green at times.

For those not familiar with the term firmware it is essentially the software inside the printer. This differs from the 'printer driver' which is the software installed on your computer that sends the information to the printer.

Firmware updates can happen automatically or need to be manually downloaded depending on the printer brand and the printer drivers settings. Generally speaking we would recommend instructing your customer not to download any firmware updates unless they are experiencing some sort of issues with their machine.

The reason we recommend this is that firmware updates have caused some aftermarket chips to stop working. One moment the cartridge is working the next moment after the update the cartridge goes "belly up" and is about as useful as a boat anchor. There was a case a few years back where an automatic firmware update prevented thousands of customers in another country from printing. This is an extreme case but it just shows you the possible effects we all face from updates etc.

Luckily this firmware issue is only a problem with a few cartridge models at this time. The majority of the cartridges in our market are problem free.

Aftermarket Samsung MLT-D101 Cartridge.

I'm not aware of any aftermarket chip manufacturers claiming they manufacture a chip compatible with all printer firmware versions assocated with this cartridge. Therefore the chance of a an error upon installation is higher than other models. So what we have decided to do is to include on this cartridge a chip which is compatible with the very latest firmware update. Therefore if you install the cartridge and the chip is not recognised we ask you to update the firmware on this printer model. Updating the firmware model will actually allow the cartridge to work in this instance.

Updated HP61 Cartridges

Starting in May 2012 HP changed the HP61 and 61XL ink cartridges. The updated cartridges are compatible with all printer models. The Cartridges available before May 2012 will not be compatible with some printers and MFP printers released in 2013.

Have a look at the link below from HP. It will show you how to distinguish between the old generation cartridge and the new one. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=au&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c03370748

Ausjet Professional Colour 273XL Cartridges Coming Soon

Following on the release of the Ausjet 200XL the Ausjet 273XL series is on it's way. The Epson 273XL series is a five colour individual ink set using a pigment black and dye cyan, magenta, yellow and photo black inks. It's the first time Epson has released this 5 colour series with two black cartridges and it's a similar system to the Canon and HP individual tanks in that the pigment black is designed for text printing, while the photo black is designed for photographic or colour work with the colour dye inks.

The Ausjet 273 inkjet cartridges use a high quality dye series with bright and beautiful colours using high grade colorants from a highly respected German colourant company. These cartridges have 21mls of ink in each cartridge. The cartridges are suitable for the Epson XP-600, XP-700 and XP-800 printers.

Ausjet vs the Bunny!

Although we don't really promote our Ausjet cartridges as a refillable product. Seems one of our customers is having tremendous results.

News recently passed into my hands is that one customer has filled the Pgi-520 Cli-521 Ausjet series cartridges 20 times. It's a great testimony to the overall cartridge design and Sensient ink that is allowing these cartridges to just keep going on and on and on......

So I ask you who would win the Ausjet Cartridge or the Bunny? You know that Bunny, the one that is given a certain type of battery and keeps going on and on and on....

I hope this information has been helpful to you.

Changes to HP02 Refillable Cartridges

By on 15 March 2013 click here to comment

Important:

Recently we have been informed that our ever popular HP02 refillable cartridge series have been changed. The change prevents the chip from being reset and therefore prevents the product from being refilled. They can still be sold as a high capacity compatible cartridge.

The image below shows a picture of the new chip which is a half size chip and unable to be reset. Older versions of the cartridge with the full size chip can still be reset and refilled successfully

Good news:

We have sourced another range of refillable cartridges which is transparent, easy to fill and has an ARC chip. ARC (Auto reset chip) of this type resets the ink levels to full every time the cartridge is installed and the printer is turned on. So it eliminates the need for a resetter!

We also have have a great range of remanufactured HP02 cartridges available!
